Shopping for ATV motocross apparel, gear and parts can be a daunting task. Especially if you are trying to make a purchase for someone else. When looking for Quad or motocross gear you may want to keep in mind that each piece of gear provides a specific function and you will want to keep some of the below information in mind.
Motocross ATV Helmets
The most important ATV motocross gear you'll ever own is a motocross helmet. Don't ever buy a used motocross helmet. The shell may look fine but could be structurally damaged in the inside. Helmet manufacturers recommend investing in a new helmet if it has ever been in an accident. Learn more about helmet safety here. A motocross helmet should have a tight fit. Not uncomfortable but tight. The inside padding will loosen with use and become more comfortable. It's important the ATV motocross helmet does not slip when you turn it and certainly not fall off if you strike the ground. You measure the size of the dirt bike helmet from temple to temple around the head. You can look under motocross helmets at top left and select sizing chart for more information.
Motocross ATV Boots
The second most important protection is for your feet. Motocross boots protect your shins, toes and ankles. Most dirt bike boots will have hard plastic shields in these areas. Motocross boots also have a steel plate that curves up over the front of the boot to protect your toes. These guards will save your feet and lower legs from impacts from rocks, roots, and other bikes. The more expensive ATV motocross boots usually offer more flexiblity without giving up protection. ATV boots have a different sole from dirt bike boots and are usually shorter in height.
Motocross ATV Goggles
Goggles protect your eyes and face from dirt, flying debris and help keep sweat from dripping into your eyes. Obviously, your vision is very important when riding a motocross bike or ATV. Most brands of motocross goggles do a good job. The more expensive motocross goggles will offer thicker face foam on the goggles, hold clear pull tear-offs to easily keep your goggles clean while riding and even offer tinted and light sensitive lenses.
Motocross Chest Protectors
Chest protectors come in various material from outside jersey hard plastic motocross ATV protectors, inside jersey soft protectors, and body suits which provide added protection for the back and sometimes elbows. A new form of motocross protection offfers air bladders which provide greater impact absorption. All of these dirt bike and ATV chest protectors guard the rider from impacts on the ground, from flying debries to even impact with other riders. Each protection device does a good job with usually the more expensive motocross protectors providing the most complete protection.
Motocross ATV Knee, Elbow and Neck Protection
Providing additional saftey protection in the case of a fall are motocross knee guards, elbow guards and critical neck protection devices. These items start at around $15.00 and go up in price. Certainly, much cheaper than a trip to the hospital! They usually come in only two sizes; adults or youth. More expensive motocross knee protectors come in various semi-custom sizes for a more perfect fit and help limit knee extension injuries.
Motocross ATV Apparel
Motocross apparel includes; jersey, pant and gloves. These items are important because they provide the rider with additional protection and riding comfort. Motorcross jerseys come in lighter, breathable material and sometimes with additional padding in the elbows and upper chest area. ATV Motorcross pants offer knee, leg and hip protection. They offer protection from the heat of the dirt bike muffler and some water proof protection. The more expensive the pant usually the better protection and breathability they offer. ATV Motocross pants are measured in inches around the waist and are offered in every two sizes since they usually offer 1 inch waist adjustments each way. They are shorter than regular pants so that you can tuck them into your ATV or motocross boots. The knee area of the pant is usually larger to alow room for ATV motorcross knee guards. Motocross gloves are important because they help keep your palms dry and allow you to obtain a secure grip of the dirtbike or ATV. Motocross gloves also offer protection from debris as well with additional padding on the top of the gloves.
